Activities
A territory that is lucky to host such mountains as the Pelmo and Civetta can only offer the best in terms of alpine climbs and walks. The uniqueness and appeal of the Valley of Zoldo is also, however, in its lesser known peaks. These can provide true experiences of novel and wild exploration to those who love mountains.
There are routes and tracks for all tastes and abilities, welcoming huts along the way, plenty of walks and break-stops in woods, to be enjoyed in harmony with nature and surrounded by the tranquillity of mountain landscapes. In winter time, the Civetta Ski Resort is not only known for its ski slopes. It also offers cross country skiing, arduous routes for alpine skiers, Nordic ski tracks and pleasant walks for snowshoe lovers, these all allowing one to relax to the extend required.
If you leave your car in Forno, by the church of St Antonio, you can cross the bridge over the Mae river and follow the road uphill. After about 200 metres and two bends there is a junction, where you can take a right turning and follow on for about 1,2 Km until you get to Pralongo. At the first houses, about 1,7 Km from Forno, there is another junction, where a right turn indicates Colcerver. On taking the road, although still surfaced in tarmac, it becomes rather narrow.
However, at Km 3,5, you reach Colcerver (1221 m). Colcerver is a small but very nice old village, with a good position and a characteristic and rustic square and a drinking fountain where one can enjoy a break. The view is really rather wonderful. Beyond the Valley, one can see the towering peaks of Spiz di mezzodì Group, while to the right stands the peaks of the Mount Gardesana and the Tamer Group. The village hosts some of the most beautiful "tabià", or wood haylofts, some centuries old, that provide evidence not only of the expert building capabilities of the locals during those times but often also of the great taste and the ability of these in combining harmonious building structure with the surrounding nature.
You can leave the village following one of two tracks. You can take track n°538 that sets off from the square, a little road that goes past the main cluster of houses. On this track, you immediately pass a second fountain, after which you head south-west on an even track. After about 500 metres, the path is interrupted by a little river, that can be crossed with mountain bikes on shoulders, to then continue other side, down a very steep hill, where pedalling is not possible.
The track then proceeds up and down somewhat and is rather technical but very pleasant nonetheless. At Km 6 (at an altitude of about 1300 m) there is a junction. Here, you keep to the right, following red markings along the way. At Km 6.5, you reach the El Vach lake, at an altitude of 1361 m, admits Larches and Beeches, at the foot of a rocky face down which a spectacular waterfall unrolls. South-east from the lake, follows a quick and easy descent on an a gravel road.
At Km 8,7 you reach a fork, where a right turning crosses a little bridge over Malisia, and you then reach the casera del Pian (1162 m). From here, the gravel road continues, sloping downwards. At Km 10,5, you reach the first houses of Pralongo, where the road suddenly becomes tarmac. You keep a right until, after about 200 metres, you reach the Al Pez camping gate. You proceed on and before the bridge, turn right on gravel road once again. At Km 11,6, you turn right at the junction, coming on to a main road, the Val Pramper, where you can left to head back to the centre of Forno.
